How the weekly picks contest works

Pick'em is a free weekly contest: pick the winner of every NFL game and the week's ten biggest college games, then rank your picks by how sure you are.

How it works

Confidence points: with 25 games, each pick gets a different value from 1 to 25. A right pick scores its value, a wrong one nothing, so put your biggest numbers on your surest picks.

The games: every NFL game plus the ten college games the watch guide rates highest. Once a week opens, a game can be added but never dropped.

Locks: each game locks at its own kickoff, by our server's clock. Its pick and value are then fixed; your other values stay free for the games still to come.

GordStats plays too: it takes our model's favorite in every game, giving its biggest values to the games it's surest of, from its last prediction before kickoff.

Keep in mind

A tie, or a canceled or postponed game, scores nothing for anyone, and so does a game you leave unpicked. Equal points on the leaderboard go to whoever has more right picks.

When it updates

Picks save as you make them. College finals post within minutes on game days; NFL finals four times a day, around 5:30 and 11:30 AM and PM Eastern.

For the curious

A week runs Tuesday through Monday, so a midweek NFL game never falls between two weeks, and week 1 is the NFL's opening week. The leaderboard shows the name you choose, never your email.
